A Message to Our Patients About COVID-19

March 16th, 2020 abcdpedi

As our organization tracks and responds to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic, we want to assure you we are remaining steadfast in our mission—to provide the Best Care, to Every Patient, All the time.

In an effort to reduce the potential for person to person spread of Covid-19, effective Monday March 16, we will be making changes in how we schedule our patients. All newborns, well child exams, non-respiratory and non-infectious visits, consultations, ADHD maintenance visits, and those patients with special needs who are healthy will be scheduled in the morning. All acute visits with fever, respiratory symptoms, or any possible viral illness will be scheduled in the afternoon. If you feel your child needs to be seen urgently, please call us and only utilize Emergency Departments for true emergencies.

Very shortly, we will be implementing “Virtual Visits” for some types of appointments via a telemedicine platform. These visits will allow an established patient to see an ABCD Pediatrics provider from the comfort of their home via a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Look for this option as you schedule an appointment in the weeks to come.

We are also exploring curbside check-in at our offices. You will text us upon arrival and wait in your vehicle instead of the reception area until your exam room is ready. We hope to offer this feature in the weeks to come.

ABCD Pediatrics is following the guidelines from the CDC, the San Antonio Metrohealth Department, and the American Academy of Pediatrics regarding our response to this virus and the protocols for testing.

Be assured that in the pediatric population this illness is essentially indistinguishable from the common cold in severity and symptoms. We want to do our part in reducing the spread of the virus to vulnerable populations such as the elderly or those with chronic medical conditions. Common sense measures such as hand washing, covering a cough, staying home while ill, and practicing social distancing is the best way to minimize spread in our community. Please keep your children in as routine of a schedule as possible, minimize media exposure, and help them practice good health practices like washing hands and covering their cough.

Thank you for entrusting us with the care of your children.
